On Tuesday, Spotify announced the worldwide launch of its new feature, SongDNA, enabling listeners to dive deeper into their favorite music.
SongDNA, available for Premium subscribers on iOS and Android, offers an interactive experience allowing users to explore various elements of a song beyond its singer, songwriter, or musician. It lets listeners discover who else has covered the song and provides information on samples, interpolations, or other projects involving the song’s contributors.
This feature expands on the “About the Song” option, offering Spotify users insights into the writers, producers, and collaborators of their beloved music. It helps users understand how artists connect and influence one another. For those in the music industry, it may also assist in finding new collaborators, producers, and other professionals to work with.
Furthermore, SongDNA provides increased visibility and recognition to those working behind the scenes in music production during the streaming era.

Last October, TechCrunch reported that Spotify was developing SongDNA to help users explore music via a song’s credits after references to it were found in the app’s code by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong. A month later, Spotify confirmed it aimed to release SongDNA by early 2026.
SongDNA partially relies on data from WhoSampled, a community-built music database that Spotify acquired the previous year. The feature competes with TIDAL’s interactive credits, which also emphasize the people behind the music you stream.
“By unifying collaborators, samples, and covers, we’re assisting fans in discovering new music and understanding how songs are interconnected—while providing songwriters, producers, and rightsholders the recognition they deserve,” stated Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s Head of Songwriter & Publisher Partnerships.
SongDNA is now rolling out in beta to Premium users globally on iOS and Android, with the rollout expected to finish by April.
