Spotify Launches Audiobook Charts

2 Min Read

Spotify is introducing Audiobook Charts in the U.S. and U.K., as announced by the company. These charts, akin to Spotify’s Music and Podcast Charts, will be refreshed weekly and will showcase the leading audiobooks overall and by genre. Rankings are determined by user listening patterns and interactions on the platform.

Both free and premium users can access the new charts via the audiobooks hub. To view them, users should tap the search icon in the app, select the “Audiobooks” tile to enter the hub, and scroll to the “Dive deeper” section.

This initiative represents Spotify’s continued investment in audiobooks, following its formal support for the format in 2022. The company has since enhanced its audiobook offerings with tools like “Page Match,” which allows users to scan a physical book page to sync with the audiobook, and “Audiobook Recaps,” offering brief audio overviews of the content read.

Spotify believes the Audiobook Charts will benefit both listeners and authors by providing a reliable method to discover popular books while opening up new avenues for authors and the publishing industry to expand their audiences.

Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s Director of Audiobook Partnerships and Licensing, stated, “As demonstrated with Music and Podcasts Charts, making content more accessible, discoverable, and enjoyable fuels demand. We’re thrilled to extend this to audiobooks, providing more ways for users, publishers, and authors to see what’s trending on Spotify and help books remain culturally relevant in real time.”

Additionally, Spotify recently expanded into physical book sales, announcing that users in the U.S. and the U.K. will soon be able to buy physical books via the app through a collaboration with Bookshop.org.
