Tamron’s New Dongle Enables Wireless Lens Control from Your Phone

1 Min Read

The Tamron-Link dongle provides Bluetooth connectivity for Tamron’s mobile and desktop remote apps. The device is a USB-C dongle that enables wireless connections between compatible lenses and mobile devices or laptops for remote customization and control. It initially supports 16 Tamron lenses. Priced at $50, the Tamron-Link dongle is available now, offering a Bluetooth range of over 16 feet, reducing the need for cables during shoots. The dongle is compatible with various Tamron Sony E, Nikon Z, and Canon RF APS-C lenses, with future firmware updates expanding support. It connects to the Tamron Lens Utility app, which launched last June, available for iOS, iPadOS, Android, and PCs/Macs. While the app isn’t essential for using Tamron lenses, it offers advanced features beneficial for video and photography. Users can set focus markers, dictate transition times between focus points, and electronically limit the focus range to prevent focusing on the distant background during motion tracking. The app also allows customization of lens functionality, including focus and aperture ring direction, adjustment types, and button functions. Even firmware updates can be handled, albeit slightly slower over Bluetooth.
