Angel Protection surveils cameras to detect weapons and identify potential shooters before they act. Founded after the 2022 Uvalde tragedy, the company aims to prevent mass shootings using AI and visual intelligence. Angel Protection’s system links with existing cameras to spot firearms, sending alerts to its monitoring center if a weapon is detected. It claims to notify law enforcement within 10 seconds. At SXSW, their technology, originally inspired by failures at local and federal levels, was showcased. The goal is to reduce the 90-second average response time of emergency services, by immediately notifying responders with photos and precise locations. The company is vigilant about privacy, assuring that data processing occurs onsite and alerts are only raised for verified threats. Despite challenges, such as differentiating holstered weapons in open-carry areas, Angel Protection is actively working with schools, hospitals, and government sites, monitoring about 2,500 cameras in Texas.
