Despite demolishing parts of the White House’s East Wing, Donald Trump’s $400 million new ballroom project has encountered a hurdle. After being sued by the National Trust for Historic Preservation due to the controversial project, a federal judge temporarily halted its construction, stating, “unless and until Congress approves this project through statutory authorization, construction must stop!”
On Wednesday night, The Daily Show host Desi Lydic analyzed the ruling by U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, which, according to CNN, “included 19 exclamation points.” “19 exclamation points? Who is the judge, me writing a work email?” Lydic remarked. “‘The court demands an immediate halt in construction, but no worries if not! Exclamation point! Sideways smiley face!'”
Lydic discussed the judge’s condition that the Trump administration, as reported by NBC News, “can finish up projects to avoid leaving the site unsafe,” with The Daily Show airing a clip of Trump in the Oval Office considering possible loopholes during a press event. “Son of a bitch, the judge said no ballroom,” Lydic said. “And President Amelia Bedelia took that to mean the judge is begging us to build that ballroom.”
