The first price cut on the first smart lock to support ultra-wideband-powered Apple Home Key functionality.

There are many excellent smart locks available, but for iPhone users, Aqara’s U400 is a standout choice. This lock offers hands-free unlocking when you approach, utilizing Apple’s U1 ultra-wideband chip for authentication. Simply open the door upon arrival. It’s currently discounted to $229.49 (from $269.99) during the Big Spring Sale on Amazon.

As Jennifer Pattison Tuohy observed in her review of the U400, while hands-free unlocking isn’t new, this implementation is notably reliable. Apple’s Home Key uses a mix of Bluetooth and UWB for connection and authentication, eliminating the need for an additional app.

Besides using Home Key, the U400 can be unlocked with a code on its touchscreen keypad, a registered fingerprint, or a standard key. This Matter-over-Thread lock works with various smart home ecosystems, requiring a Thread border router (such as recent Apple TV models, the second-gen HomePod, or HomePod Mini) to facilitate communication over Thread instead of over Wi-Fi, thereby preserving battery life.
