Key information to consider

  • Effective immediately, Threads users can message individuals directly through the app, utilizing Direct Messages.
  • Users are now able to text their followers or mutual acquaintances one-on-one, without the need to switch between apps.
  • Moreover, Threads is introducing a feature that will highlight significant or trending discussions.

Meta’s app Threads, reminiscent of X, has revealed that it is finally launching Direct Messages (DMs) on the social-media platform, commencing today (July 1). In its statement, Threads confirmed that users can initiate one-on-one texting via DMs, eliminating the need for toggling between Instagram and Threads.

Additionally, it mentioned that although Threads functions as Instagram’s counterpart, users on this platform often follow distinct accounts influenced by the content shared on Threads, and the introduction of DMs would facilitate connections with these followed accounts.

However, for the time being, the app will restrict messaging to individuals who follow you and mutual followers aged 18 and older, prioritizing safety and privacy. “As we enhance messaging capabilities, we’re focusing on safety to ensure DMs become another venue for positive exchanges on Threads,” the statement elaborated.
