Truecaller Now Ends Calls from Scammers on Your Family’s Behalf

Truecaller has introduced a new feature for its caller identity platform that allows one person to become an admin of a family group. The admin can receive alerts about fraud calls received by other members and even terminate a call on behalf of a member if they suspect a scam. This feature, initially launched in countries like Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya in December, is now available globally, including in India. Users, even those on a free plan, can create groups of up to five members. The admin can monitor potentially fraudulent calls reported to group members and end calls remotely for Android users only. Additionally, Android users can provide the admin access to detect real-time activities such as walking or driving, battery levels, and phone sound settings, assisting in monitoring elderly members. The admin can block specific numbers and international calling codes and share a blocklist with members. Truecaller clarified that admins cannot view the non-spam call or SMS history of group members. The company, aiming to address fraud, is exploring using AI to screen and automatically disconnect calls containing scam-related keywords. India’s rising scam calls prompted the identification of over 7.7 billion fraud calls last year. Despite obstacles like declining stock and competition from India’s CNAP system, Truecaller remains focused on providing consumers with enriched call information and solutions.
