The White House has launched a mobile app that records users’ precise location every 4.5 minutes. Released by President Donald Trump’s administration for iOS and Android, the app promises live-streams and real-time updates. However, downloading it requires granting access to extensive personal data, including location, network information, biometric data, and storage permissions. Additionally, the app transmits this data to OneSignal, a third-party company offering push notification services, which raises concerns about the government collecting such information, especially as the app encourages reporting to ICE. A user decompiled the app, discovering that it uses an unsecured third-party GitHub page for YouTube embeds, creating significant security risks. The in-app browser further bypasses security measures on third-party sites. Potential users should be mindful of these privacy and security issues.
