John Hennessy is a prominent figure in computer science, entrepreneurship, and academia, recognized for his pivotal role in computer architecture. He was instrumental in the development of the RISC architecture, which transformed modern computing by facilitating quicker and more efficient processors. From 2000 to 2016, Hennessy led Stanford University as its president and later co-founded both MIPS Computer Systems and Atheros Communications. Presently, he is a board member of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and chairs the board of Alphabet.

Hennessy was awarded the 2017 Turing Award for introducing a comprehensive, quantitative methodology in the design and assessment of computer architectures, significantly impacting the microprocessor industry.
