John Hennessy, a computer scientist, entrepreneur, and academic, is renowned for his pivotal role in computer architecture through the development of the RISC architecture, which enhanced modern computing by creating faster, more efficient processors. He was Stanford University’s president from 2000 to 2016 and co-founded MIPS Computer Systems and Atheros Communications. Currently, he is on the board of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and chairs the board of Alphabet.

In 2017, John received the Turing Award for his systematic, quantitative approach to designing and evaluating computer architectures, significantly impacting the microprocessor industry.

He joins Kevin Ball in this episode to discuss his life and career.
