Uber Expands Its $4,000 ‘Go Electric’ Grant to Drivers Nationwide

1 Min Read

A grant for drivers aiming to switch from gas to electric vehicles is now available nationwide, expanding from a few locations. Efforts to transition have been spurred by rising gas prices since recent geopolitical conflicts. Previously offering $4,000 incentives to drivers in select areas like California and New York City, Uber is now extending this to all U.S. drivers. As gas prices rise, and with federal EV incentives no longer available, Uber’s initiative is timely. Registration for the grant opens on April 16th. Globally, Uber aims to have a fully electric fleet by 2040, with a goal of carbon neutrality in North America and Europe by 2030. Despite originally resisting direct payments to encourage switching, Uber reversed its decision to accelerate EV adoption. Federal incentives’ elimination hindered their progress, prompting Uber to counter moves in California for increased EV ridehailing trips. Their strategy now includes offering the Go Electric grant and securing discounted EV purchases through partnerships with automakers. As part of this, Kia provides exclusive discounts to Uber drivers on models like Niro and EV9, with potential additional savings through TrueCar.
