Puget Systems has identified a firmware issue affecting all Micron 7450 and 7500 PRO NVMe SSDs. This notice is to alert users and prevent further drive failures. Despite a low failure rate (~2% across models), the consequences can be severe. We strongly advise updating all Micron 7450 and 7500 PRO series drives to the latest firmware version promptly.
Micron 7450 and 7500 drives with firmware E2MU200 or E3MQ000 might randomly enter a ‘panic’ state, making I/O operations impossible, rendering the drive and data inaccessible. Recovery may be possible through professional services, though unverified.
A faulty firmware version has been pinpointed as the cause. Further information is unavailable at this time.
Preventing the issue requires preemptive firmware updates to the latest versions. Firmware updates are not possible once a drive enters a panic state, making recovery impossible.
– 7450 PRO series drives: E2MU300
– 7500 PRO series drives: E3MQ005
Firmware and update instructions are available on Micron’s website: Micron SSD Firmware.
