Valve has launched SteamOS 3.8.0 in preview, featuring support for the forthcoming Steam Machine gaming PC and additional support for various handheld devices, including the Xbox Ally series and Lenovo’s Legion Go 2. Noteworthy updates include a new hibernation mode for the Steam Deck, Bluetooth microphone functionality in gaming mode, and Bluetooth Wake for the Steam Deck LCD. The update also offers numerous improvements for the Linux desktop modes, like HDR and VRR display support, enhancing the Steam Machine experience. Additionally, the update allows Steam Machines to detect HDMI audio channels for surround sound. There are enhancements like a new Arch system base, an updated graphics driver, improved video memory management, and the ability to limit battery charges for certain Lenovo devices.
