Vivo Unveils Its Initial Android Mixed Reality Headset, Outperforming Samsung

Vivo has made a remarkable advancement into the mixed reality (MR) sector with the introduction of its Vision Discovery Edition headset in China. This rollout signifies Vivo’s foray into the rapidly growing Android MR headset market, establishing it as a rival to products like Apple’s Vision Pro. The Vision Discovery Edition, weighing 398g in contrast to Apple’s 600g, features an elegant design with a glass-covered front, aluminum frame, and fabric headband. It provides customizable comfort with four sizes of light seal and eight foam padding choices.

The headset operates on Vivo’s OriginOS Vision, a distinctive operating system that integrates effortlessly with the user’s surroundings and supports sophisticated features such as eye-tracking and fingertip gesture recognition. Internally, the device is outfitted with dual 8K Micro-OLED displays and the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, ensuring swift rendering for spatial computing tasks.

Vivo’s Vision Discovery Edition aims to elevate entertainment experiences, capable of creating a virtual theater screen up to 120 feet wide. It enables users to experience sports and e-sports broadcasts from multiple angles and supports split-screen functionality for concurrent game viewing.

Although Vivo has yet to reveal pricing or availability specifics, the company intends to present the headset in China soon. This launch aligns with Vivo’s renewed collaboration with ZEISS, aiming to enhance imaging capabilities on Vivo devices.
