WordPress.com Introduces AI Agents for Writing and Publishing Posts

Web hosting platform WordPress.com is integrating AI agents, a move set to transform the internet’s landscape. The company announced Friday it will now permit AI agents to draft, edit, publish content on customers’ sites, manage comments, update metadata, and organize content with tags and categories.

These tasks are managed through an interface that allows site owners to give instructions using natural language commands.

With these enhancements, websites could largely be developed and operated by AI under human supervision. This eases the process of establishing and maintaining websites and could lead to content primarily created by machines rather than humans.

WordPress powers over 43% of all internet sites, with WordPress.com hosting a small portion of this. However, its network is significant, boasting 20 billion pageviews and 409 million unique visitors monthly.

The new AI abilities succeed the launch of MCP support on WordPress.com last fall. MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is a modern standard enabling applications to supply context to large language models. With WordPress.com’s MCP support, AI can connect with the platform, giving users insight into site content, settings, and analytics from AI apps such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, and VS Code.

Now, WordPress.com will permit AI agents not only to view site content but also to create posts, landing pages, About pages, and make structural changes.

The AI agents can also approve, reply to, and clean comments; create, rename, and reorganize categories and tags; and fix alt text, captions, and titles to improve SEO. These adjustments are tracked in the site’s Activity Log, as noted by the company.

Customers can draft for their AI agent to publish or can let their AI agent create a post or page by describing the content. All changes require user approval, and AI-written posts are saved as drafts by default.

Despite these restrictions, the enhanced capabilities could drastically expedite site creation with minimal human-written content.

The AI agent can also browse the site’s theme and design to apply consistent colors, fonts, spacing, and block patterns when generating content.

To access the new capabilities, customers visit wordpress.com/mcp, toggle desired functionalities, connect an AI client like Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or another MCP-enabled tool, and start creating.

While concerns may arise regarding AI-written web content, AI-authored posts can provide insights into how such models operate. Meta recently acquired Moltbook, a network where AI agents interacted, and Anthropic has explored AI blogging with human oversight.
