Essential information

  • The new “Photo to video” feature from YouTube Shorts allows you to transform still images into dynamic clips with a few clicks.
  • This feature is currently available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • It operates on Veo 2, the same AI technology that powers the new video functionalities in Google Photos, and all AI-generated content features a watermark.

YouTube is introducing new tools for Shorts creators, and although it’s encased in AI jargon, some of these tools are genuinely useful.

Sarah Ali, the VP of product management for YouTube Creation Experiences, detailed the new features in a blog update. The “Photo to video” function serves as a shortcut to breathe life into static images.

You select a picture from your gallery, pick a template, and it generates a video version complete with supplemental motion or animation. While it might not be revolutionary, it provides an effortless way to convert old photos into something more engaging. It is initially launching in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with additional regions set to follow later this year.
