HBO Reveals Casting for Harry, Hermione, and Ron in Upcoming Harry Potter Television Series

HBO’s Harry Potter series is progressing towards becoming a reality, as the three key students at Hogwarts have been selected. On Tuesday, HBO revealed that it has cast Dominic McLaughlin in the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. This marks the first significant role for all three young actors.

Harry Potter showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Killing Eve) and director Mark Mylod (The Menu) released the following statement regarding the casting news: “After an incredible search conducted by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are thrilled to announce that we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three distinctive actors is a joy to witness, and we are eager for the world to see their magic together onscreen. We express our gratitude to all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It has been a true joy to discover the abundance of young talent available.”

Here’s the full list of cast members announced for HBO’s Harry Potter series thus far:
– Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
– Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
– Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley
– John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
– Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
– Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
– Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
– Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrel
– Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

HBO has indicated that the series will be “a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling.” The intention is for each TV season to adapt one book from the series, allowing the show to delve into details that the films could not explore. Therefore, there are planned to be seven seasons in total.

With many of the crucial roles now cast, filming is reportedly expected to commence this summer. There isn’t a release date yet, but the first season is anticipated to launch within the first half of next year. We are used to waiting two to three years between seasons, but HBO will need to keep pace to ensure the children do not age out of their roles.
