“Hit Romantic CW Series Sees Huge Audience Surge Following Netflix Launch”

At times, when you access your preferred streaming platform, you find yourself looking for something fresh and thrilling to view. Other moments, you simply wish to binge-watch a series that has been running for a while. Netflix offers a blend of both, which is why we frequently witness shows like Sullivan’s Crossing — which just entered the Netflix catalog this week — rapidly rising in popularity.

Sullivan’s Crossing is adapted from the novels by Robyn Carr, who also penned the books that led to the creation of the Netflix original series Virgin River. Sullivan’s Crossing debuted on Canada’s CTV in 2023 and is also broadcast on The CW in the United States. Considering the immense popularity of Virgin River — which has recently been renewed for an eighth season — it’s hardly surprising that viewers flocked to watch Sullivan’s Crossing the moment it was available on the streaming service.

What is Sullivan’s Crossing about?

This Canadian romantic drama features neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) as she finds herself entangled in work-related legal issues and returns home to Timberlake, Nova Scotia to regain her footing. Her employer was charged with billing fraud, and she’s facing a lawsuit for negligence. In the meantime, she strives to reconnect with her estranged father and build a social life. To say the least, she is “going through it” as the narrative begins.

To make things even more complicated, Maggie has left her boyfriend, Andrew (Allan Hawco), back in Boston. Their parting wasn’t amicable, and it isn’t long before he appears at her doorstep, seeking to reconcile. Now, he wishes for Maggie to return to Boston, but she isn’t quite ready to leave yet, creating a new division between them.

And then there’s California Jones, or Cal, (Chad Michael Murray) — a charming local who escorts Maggie home after she indulges a bit too much one night. If you sense a romantic tension forming between Cal and Andrew, you’re on the right track.

Who’s in the cast?

Alongside Morgan Kohan as Maggie Sullivan and Chad Michael Murray as Cal Jones, the main cast includes Scott Patterson as Maggie’s father Harry Sullivan, Tom Jackson as Harry’s close friend Frank Cranebear, and Andrea Menard as Frank’s spouse Edna.
