Don’t misunderstand me, Apple delivers one of the premier screens available on any device. However, while it has become increasingly resistant to falls over time, it continues to face challenges with scratches and abrasions.
This is why a report indicating that Apple was developing a novel scratch-resistant anti-reflective display layer for the imminent iPhone 17 models had me particularly enthusiastic. Regrettably, this speculation was subsequently disproven as Apple was not pleased with the outcomes it attained.
Fortunately, MacRumors reports that Apple suppliers successfully reached a “high enough yield on the anti-reflective glass to facilitate mass production.” As per sources knowledgeable about the situation, Apple intends to incorporate this scratch-resistant anti-reflective display into the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models.
With this development, we could anticipate a display for Apple’s premier phones that is less reflective yet resistant to scratches, akin to what Samsung achieved with their new S25 series. While it appears unlikely that Apple will implement Gorilla Glass Armor technology, it seems the company has succeeded in procuring something comparable. In the case of Gorilla Glass, it can reduce reflections by up to 75% while enhancing contrast in brightly lit environments.
Although this feature won’t be appearing on the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air models, Apple might finally introduce ProMotion and Always-On Display features to these devices, despite some speculation suggesting that a fixed higher refresh rate may be provided for these models.
That being said, the company has numerous enhancements anticipated for the iPhone 17 display, with even more innovations expected in future years, including a more compact Dynamic Island and, ultimately, a fully-display design with the Face ID and camera sensors situated beneath the panel.
