Apple Keeps Indicating homeOS, But a Crucial Element is Still Missing

Apple has finally unveiled homeOS, its software framework designed for home devices. Alluded to multiple times over recent years, it seems the company frequently encounters obstacles just prior to disclosing homeOS.

This time, the Israeli site The Verifier found mentions of “Apple Home” within the Settings app across all Apple TV models running the latest tvOS 26 beta. This detail was also confirmed by MacRumors, indicating that the company may be contemplating the removal of the HomeKit branding in favor of Apple Home. Here’s a specific example of Apple substituting “HomeKit” for “Apple Home” within the application: “Your Apple TV won’t connect to iCloud and Apple Home until you add a new default user.”

Although Apple has utilized the HomeKit designation for 11 years, this transformation could simplify its smart home efforts and also signal deeper changes, as tvOS will not be Apple’s sole connection to the home.
