Macworld reports that a MacBook Pro featuring 5G mobile capability may be on the horizon. The outlet recently gained access to some internal Apple coding and found a mention of a “Centauri” chip. While it might seem unfamiliar, that’s the complete designation for the C1 modem Apple introduced on the iPhone 16e earlier this year. In summary, the code indicates that Apple is in the process of testing an upgraded MacBook Pro with an M5 Pro chip alongside cellular capabilities.

Furthermore, there are already indications that Apple started testing a second-generation C2 modem this year. In fact, there’s speculation that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could come equipped with the C2.

Though it’s premature to determine when Apple will reveal an updated MacBook Pro range, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently suggested that a launch in 2026 seems probable. This timeline aligns with the fact that Apple’s last significant MacBook Pro upgrade occurred in October 2024, when it unveiled a new MacBook Pro series powered by M4 processors.
