raptors probably didn’t hunt in groups. We have gradually been discovering more about raptors in general, with researchers even finding new raptor-like fossils in surprising locations over the past few years.
Currently, however, scientists behind a recent study in Historical Biology claim they have discovered a new species within the famed animal’s lineage, and this one is distinct from any raptor we have encountered to date. Unearthed prior to 2010 — when it was removed and taken from Mongolia’s Gobi Desert by fossil thieves — this new specimen has now been returned to its origins with the name: Shri rapax.
What distinguishes the shri rapax from other relatives in the dromaeosaur family, including the velociraptor, is that it possesses more pointed claws and probably had a more powerful bite in comparison to the other raptors we’ve found throughout the years. These potential variations were likely due to a shorter snout, alongside st
