Google announced on Wednesday that its 2025 foldable model will be the inaugural dustproof foldable device, a milestone that competitors have yet to reach. While devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Honor Magic V5 are waterproof, some foldables can keep larger dust particles out of the device. However, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first foldable to achieve an IP68 rating, a standard we have come to expect from traditional smartphones.
According to Google, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold features a revamped design, incorporating a gearless hinge that is said to be twice as sturdy as its predecessor. This part may contribute, at least in some way, to the dustproof nature of the device.
Additionally, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold showcases a slim profile, measuring only 5.2mm when opened. Nevertheless, the phone houses a substantial 5,015 mAh battery that promises over 30 hours of usage. It also supports 15W Pixelsnap magnetic wireless charging (Qi2), similar to the standard Pixel 10 models. Wired charging reaches up to 30W, which is quick enough to provide a 50% charge in just 30 minutes.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is set to be available for preorder on Wednesday, with a starting price of $1,799. The foldable device will be shipped to customers on October 9th, over a month later than the other three Pixel 10 models.
