In light of Apple’s recent launch of AirPods Pro 3, featuring a completely new heart rate sensor, Beats has officially announced that the Powerbeats Pro 2 will also receive several of the newly introduced benefits. For those who may not know, the Powerbeats Pro 2 were Apple’s initial earbuds equipped with a heart rate sensor. In our review of the Powerbeats Pro 2, we commended the quality of the sensor, which operates solely during exercise and when the user is not wearing an Apple Watch.
Though this remains accurate for the AirPods Pro 3, the functionality of the Powerbeats Pro 2 was confined to third-party applications. However, with the upcoming iOS 26, Apple is incorporating a new Workout section within the Fitness app, enabling users to organize and reflect their workouts, utilize the AI-enhanced Workout Buddy, and additional features. The Powerbeats Pro 2 will benefit from workout and heart rate monitoring through this application. Furthermore, more information will be accessible during Apple Fitness+ sessions.
In a forthcoming update, the Powerbeats Pro 2 will gain additional functionalities, including gestures that let users interact with Siri and the capability to halt media playback upon detecting that the user has fallen asleep. These features have been available to users of AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 for a while, powered by the H2 chip in conjunction with a compatible iPhone.
Additionally, the Powerbeats Pro 2 will soon include a Calorimeter, Pedometer, and Live Activities for displaying heart rate information on the Lock Screen. Essentially, the company is preparing to introduce all the fantastic features that are also being added to the AirPods Pro 3 and that are already present in the AirPods Pro 2.
