A recent APK analysis of Google’s newest Android System Intelligence update has disclosed additional details regarding an upcoming feature that may alter how Pixel smartphones identify spam. As per the report from Android Authority on the breakdown, it seems that the updated version of Android System Intelligence found on the Pixel 10 series reveals settings related to scam detection that extend beyond Google’s Phone and Messages applications.
The configuration indicates that Google Pixel users might soon take advantage of the privacy features integrated into their devices to recognize scam and spam messages across a variety of apps, including WhatsApp, Signal, and Instagram. Naturally, the list discovered by Android Authority within the app is not a definitive assurance that any of the mentioned applications will benefit from Scam Detection in the future, particularly as one of the apps included on the list — Hangouts — has not been active for some time now.
The applications specified in the teardown comprise Google Messages, Signal, Google Chat, WhatsApp, Kakao Talk, Verizon Messages, Instagram, Twitter, Hangouts, Line, and even Facebook Messenger Lite. There is also reference to a Test SafeComms Chat, which Android Authority speculates is a communication app designed for internal usage for Google’s Android development team.
