an AI effort that Meta revealed in June, when Facebook initiated prompts to users in select areas requesting their consent to upload their images to Meta’s servers for “cloud processing” functionalities aimed at assisting them in discovering and enhancing content for sharing across its social platforms. Subsequently, some Facebook users discovered that Meta may be examining their photo collections without their awareness.
The recently introduced feature raises concerns, as Meta seeks user consent to allow its AI to scrutinize every image in the camera roll. “With your consent and the assistance of AI, our latest feature allows Facebook to automatically highlight hidden treasures – those cherished moments that are overshadowed by screenshots, receipts, and random photos – and edit them for saving or sharing,” Meta stated. The prompt does offer some positive news; if you activate the feature, the data in your camera roll will not be utilized for ad targeting. Meta claims it will review the content for “safety and integrity purposes.”
