As previously stated, the Nomad Leather Mag wallet is fully compatible with Find My. However, incorporating this feature is trickier than one might assume. Indeed, there exists the communications technology required to connect the device with the Find My network, but one must also consider the battery needed to operate that technology and a method to recharge that battery. Nomad’s solution to this is quite clever.

All the technology is discreetly concealed within the wallet’s base. There isn’t even a USB-C port available for the battery. Instead, it charges wirelessly, just like your iPhone, by placing it on a MagSafe charger or a standard Qi charger as needed. This is an intelligent tactic. After all, the wallet is already equipped with the magnets necessary for MagSafe, and adopting wireless charging eliminates the need for unattractive design elements like a physical port.

You might be curious about what differentiates the Find My feature in this wallet from the Find My functionality in Apple’s official MagSafe wallet. The Apple MagSafe wallet lacks any integrated technology. Rather, your iPhone merely detects when you detach the wallet and logs that location. Consequently, when searching for your wallet in the Find My app, the only information displayed is the location where you removed it, not its current whereabouts.

This is not the case with the Nomad Leather Mag Wallet. Instead, this leather MagSafe wallet offers genuine Find My support, meaning its location will be updated in the Find My app, allowing you to perform actions such as triggering a sound from the wallet to aid in locating it. To clarify, the Find My technology integrated into the wallet is different from the ultra-wideband technology found in AirTags, hence it does not provide precision tracking that could help locate the wallet to within a foot or so. However, you will at least be able to trace it to its general vicinity, and hopefully use the audio feature to determine its exact location. You can also activate features like left-behind notifications in the Find My app, where you can view the wallet on a map and sound an alert if you are within 150 feet.

The battery inside the wallet will last for five months on a single charge, making it wise to remember to recharge it occasionally. Unfortunately, it seems you won’t receive notifications when the wallet’s battery is running low, although you can monitor the battery level through the Find My app. It may be beneficial to set a reminder every three to four months to recharge it. Fortunately, the wallet will emit a beep when it is fully charged, though it is subtle enough that you might not hear it if you are not close by.
