National Safety Council. It’s a troubling statistic, yet legislators in Wisconsin are aiming to enhance this situation with the intention of safeguarding lives and preventing injuries caused by speeding individuals. This legislation would mandate certain drivers to equip their vehicles with speed-limiting devices.
On October 23, 2025, state lawmakers introduced a bill designed to promote road safety through the implementation of speed limiter devices in vehicles. This requirement would be enforced only for individuals who have accumulated at least two reckless driving convictions within a five-year period, with these devices mandated for installation in their vehicle for one year. The objective of this legislation is to hold responsible those who have shown a consistent pattern of dangerous driving and pose a risk to others, restricting their speed to no more than 20 miles above the posted speed limit, which remains quite swift.
Such a device would not only restrict the capabilities of hazardous drivers but also encourage them to adopt safer driving behaviors overall. It recalls the observation that utilizing an app to monitor driving has led to improved safety among drivers. While there are many supporters of this proposal, some contend that it may not be the most appropriate course of action.
