announcing Smart Reorder, designed to enhance transitions by merging songs’ BPM and key.

Spotify indicates that this functionality is reserved for Premium subscribers, with the option to activate it by tapping Mix on a playlist, then Edit, and selecting Smart Reorder. Songs will subsequently be rearranged based on their BPM or key. Consequently, transitions will appear more fluid, blending songs in a way that goes beyond mere fades every time one track is nearing its conclusion.

The company has already provided several examples of popular transitions that users are currently enjoying, such as Bad Bunny’s “Safaera” transitioning into “EoO,” or “No Lie” by Sean Paul into “Adventure of a Lifetime” by Coldplay. Moreover, Spotify’s Smart Reorder serves as a smart tool for those skilled at curating playlists but uncertain about constructing the ideal flow or narrative.

Apple Music, conversely, continues to lag behind its rival

Contrasting this announcement with Apple Music’s AutoMix feature, rolled out with iOS 26, highlights the innovation in some of Spotify’s capabilities. For instance, AutoMix appears to be an enhancement of crossfade, which merely offers a basic fade in and fade out between tracks. In contrast, Smart Reorder enables the service to cleverly discern when to shift from one song to another.
