When you subscribe to a new internet service, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) typically includes a router in the offer. This is convenient as it allows you to immediately connect to the internet without adjusting any settings on the network or router. While this may suffice for many users, it may not always be the best option. You could find yourself with obsolete hardware, restricted control, subpar performance, and inadequate security. Furthermore, you might end up spending more on the ISP’s router over time than you would for a new one.
ISPs generally produce or procure routers in large quantities aimed at convenience rather than performance. This approach makes them cheaper and simplifies the repair process. Additionally, some manufacturers may restrict customizations to ensure stability, which can adversely affect the router’s performance. That’s why some individuals have chosen to replace their ISP’s router with one that offers superior security, performance, and Wi-Fi coverage.
