Anthropic Declines VC Funding Offers Valuing It at Over $800 Billion, for Now

Investors are eager to invest in the top startups, but startups may not be keen on issuing more shares. This is the case with Anthropic, as reported by Bloomberg.

VCs are proposing a preemptive funding round to the OpenAI competitor, valuing the company at $800 billion or more — nearly matching or possibly surpassing its competitor. In February, OpenAI concluded a $110 billion round, setting its valuation at $852 billion. Earlier, Anthropic disclosed a $30 billion round with a $380 billion valuation, which would have been a record-breaker at another time.

According to Bloomberg, Anthropic remains uninterested in the VCs’ latest offers for now. However, this stance might change as Anthropic evaluates its substantial capital expenditures, despite not engaging in agreements with the same intensity as OpenAI.

The Claude developer has recently allocated $50 billion to establish its own data centers, $30 billion for Microsoft’s cloud services, and continues to spend billions annually on AWS. Eventually, it might require funds, especially if favorable terms allow for a valuation more than double the previous one.

Investors are enticed by Anthropic’s increasing revenue — allegedly $30 billion by the end of March, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025 — and consider it worthwhile. The demand for Anthropic shares is so high that the interest is almost insatiable on secondary markets. With a nod from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, the company could raise funds that surpass its rival’s valuation.

Anthropic declined to comment to Bloomberg and did not promptly respond to our request for comment.
