The RAM shortage persists.
The persistent RAM deficit remains a significant challenge for producers, and it’s now impacting two of our preferred VR headsets. Beginning this Sunday, April 19th, the costs of both the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S will rise by $100 and $50, respectively, so if you’re looking to purchase the headsets before the increase, now is your final opportunity to do so.
As per a blog entry from Meta, the “worldwide spike in the cost of essential components — particularly memory chips — is affecting nearly every sector of consumer electronics, including VR,” indicating that the price of the VR devices will be influenced as follows:
- Meta Quest 3 512GB:
was $499now $599 (starting April 19) - Meta Quest 3S 128GB:
was $299now $349.99 (starting April 19) - Meta Quest 3S 256GB:
was $399now $449.99 (starting April 19)
The price increase will also impact refurbished units available through Meta’s shop. It’s certainly disappointing, but the silver lining is that you still have a few days to secure your Meta Quest headset before the price hike takes effect.
