I am thrilled that CarPlay’s new widget interface is finally embracing Apple Sports. Last year, I was let down when Apple launched a Sports iOS widget without CarPlay support, but this week brings a change. The latest update now includes support, allowing users to follow live sports scores within the new widgets interface in iOS 26’s CarPlay.
Users can choose between a league widget showcasing live scores and schedules or a teams widget tracking favorite teams. Both display live scores, but don’t update in real time. During a test with the Crystal Palace v. West Ham game, the time counter didn’t progress instantly.
Despite this, I prefer it over Apple Sports app’s Live Activities feature which creates clutter by making a miniature dashboard widget; now, three widgets can be stacked neatly.
Additionally, Apple Sports has added F1 tracking features for enthusiasts to see race weather conditions and track data like temperature and wind speed. It’s also ready for this year’s World Cup, offering a feature to follow teams and view group details before kicking off in June.
