Yelp is significantly enhancing its chatbot assistant, transforming the platform into a digital concierge with a range of new features focused on productivity. This move is part of recent AI advancements aimed at making technology more practical for users by leveraging extensive user-generated data for competitive advantage. According to a press release, the Yelp Assistant chatbot will be central to the app experience, capable of answering questions, offering recommendations, and managing bookings in a single interaction. The bot will be accessible through a new “Assistant” tab across all Yelp categories, expanding from its 2024 debut as a tool for hiring service providers. Additionally, Yelp is expanding Assistant’s capabilities with new app integrations, allowing users to order takeout or delivery via DoorDash and Grubhub, request professional quotes, and book appointments with beauty, wellness, fitness, and healthcare providers through platforms like Vagaro and Zocdoc. Support for Yelp Waitlist and Calendly integration for scheduling will be added soon. Craig Saldanha, Yelp’s chief product officer, described the update as the platform’s “most significant AI product evolution yet,” emphasizing that it marks the start of a more conversational, personalized, and action-oriented Yelp experience.
