New Camera Functionality and Future Enhancements for iPhone 18 Pro Uncovered by Insider

A recent update from a trustworthy Weibo insider reveals four new camera enhancements Apple is apparently developing, with at least one expected to arrive with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

## Variable Aperture in iPhone 18 Pro to Be Accompanied by Three Additional Camera Enhancements

Weibo insider Digital Chat Station shared an update today regarding four ongoing iPhone camera enhancements.

For the iPhone 18 Pro, he anticipates the addition of a variable aperture lens. Some reports have suggested that this feature may be limited to the Pro Max variant, so it’s reassuring to learn that the iPhone 18 Pro is likely to also include the variable aperture enhancement.

This feature is expected to provide improved control over the depth of field (DoF) in your images. You can achieve a shallow DoF when you wish to separate the subject from the background, a medium DoF for isolation while keeping the background discernible, or a deep DoF for having everything in focus.

It’s highly probable that the iOS 27 Camera app will feature user-friendly controls that simplify depth of field adjustments.

In addition to the variable aperture, Digital Chat Station also references three other camera enhancements being developed. While he doesn’t foresee their launch this year, there’s one upgrade planned for each camera:

– **Main Camera**: 1/1.12″ oversized sensor
– **Ultra Wide**: Improved OIS (optical image stabilization)
– **Telephoto**: 200MP periscope lens

Although the timeline for all these enhancements remains uncertain, given the leaker’s solid reputation, this likely outlines a fairly precise roadmap for future iPhone camera advancements.
