Thundr introduces AI moderation, encryption, and mandatory sign-ins, but NSFW material still gets through. By Tyler Schoeber on April 27, 2026.

Since Omegle’s shutdown in late 2023, platforms like Thundr have stepped up, offering random video and text chat features reminiscent of Omegle. Thundr is particularly noted for its safety measures such as AI moderation designed to block nudity, spam, and hate speech. It allows customization with up to 33 tags and country selection.

However, despite these features, Thundr’s algorithm tends to funnel users based on explicit content interactions. Although promoted as safe with end-to-end encryption and reporting options, nudity still appears frequently, creating concerns especially as the platform can be accessed by minors without strict age verification.

Thundr is free, offering Boosts for prioritized matches at an additional cost. It operates via browsers without a dedicated app, and the mobile experience offsets classic Omegle features. Although it attempts to regulate explicit content, users under 18 can access the platform, posing a safety issue.

Thundr requires user sign-ins, adding a layer of responsibility. While it claims a safe environment, vigilance is advised when using any cam site.
