The C64C Ultimate will be produced using the same equipment as the original from 1986.

The creators of the C64 Ultimate, a recreation of the ‘80s personal computer using an FPGA chip to replicate the original, have announced a new version that continues its predecessor’s legacy. The original Commodore 64 launched in 1982, followed by the Commodore 64C in 1986, which had a slimmer case and an updated color scheme. The new Commodore 64C Ultimate offers a facelift to the C64 Ultimate without adding new functionality.

To ensure authenticity, the reborn Commodore acquired the original injection molding tools used for the plastic housing 40 years ago. The new C64C Ultimate includes the same semi-circular marks on its housing, indicating genuine production processes.

Like the C64 Ultimate, the C64C Ultimate has upgrades such as Wi-Fi, USB, and an HDMI port, while maintaining compatibility with ‘80s-era peripherals like floppy disk and cassette drives. Preorders are available now starting at $299.99, with shipping expected as early as September. Premium versions featuring enhancements like LED lighting, a translucent case, and gold keycaps are priced up to $499.99.
