iPhone 16e equipped with Apple’s initial C1 5G modem and thereafter the C1X modem in the iPhone Air, Apple is anticipated to equip all forthcoming iPhone 18 models (including refreshed versions of the Air and Fold phones) with its new C2 chip. Currently, China’s Commercial Times reports that Apple is preparing a 4nm C2 modem for all its latest smartphones, while also committing to TSMC’s first batch of 2nm processors for the A20 and A20 Pro chips. Although the publication does not delve deeply into the overall specifications of Apple’s new 5G modem, earlier reports confirm that the company intends to finally incorporate 5G mmWave technology in its new generation of cellular chips.

Additionally, when Apple launched the iPhone Air with the C1X chip, the company’s VP of Software Technologies and Ecosystems, Arun Mathias, stated that Apple aims to continue broadening its cellular modem lineup. “Our focus was really on what we required for iPhone Air,” Mathias remarked when questioned about the absence of the modem in other models. “We have excellent products with iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro as well. Over the long term, we will observe Apple cellular solutions in a wider range of products.”
