Google is diligently enhancing Android 16. With the OS’s initial launch, Google rolled out Live Updates, which serve as Android’s equivalent to the iPhone’s Live Activities. This feature allows users to access real-time information on various topics, including food deliveries, live game scores, and more, all displayed in persistent notifications that remain fixed at the top of the notification panel until they’re no longer needed.
This provides a convenient way to stay updated with vital information, particularly for those frequently switching between applications. Now, reports indicate Google is extending support for this useful feature to its widely-used app: Google Maps. According to Android Authority, some users running the most recent Android 16 QPR2 beta have noticed Google Maps notifications are now showing up as Live Updates in the notification area and on their devices’ lock screens.
The report features several screenshots showcasing the new Live Update notification, which remains as simple as Google’s past Maps notifications. Although the final version of the feature may undergo adjustments, Android users shouldn’t find it difficult to adapt to.
