Google has even criticized Apple for failing to fulfill its commitments. While the manufacturer of the iPhone has only disclosed limited information regarding its plans to enhance Siri, recent reports indicate it might utilize Gemini — Google’s generative AI model — to drive its improved Siri.
As reported by Bloomberg, Apple has been negotiating with Google to investigate a collaboration that would allow the company to develop a custom AI model which Apple could leverage as the basis for its refreshed Siri. Apple has been attempting to keep pace with entities like OpenAI, Google, and even Perplexity in the generative AI arena. Up until now, it hasn’t succeeded significantly in delivering on the promises that would render Apple Intelligence a competitive substitute for ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot.
Although the company’s slow progress wasn’t entirely unexpected, given Apple’s relatively late entry into the AI domain, it has also been marked by a pattern of overstating and underachieving on its promised AI functionalities. It’s been difficult not to view the revamped Siri as vaporware. Apple has found itself in some trouble due to the ongoing delays in launching its updated Siri.
