Apple TV configuration.

Simply launch the Settings application. Next, navigate to General and choose Appearance. From this point, you can select Dark to set the system to Dark Mode permanently, or opt for Automatic to alternate between Light and Dark Mode based on the time — Light during the day and Dark at night. Enabling Dark Mode allows for easier navigation on your Apple TV without the intense glare. It’s significantly cozier and more soothing as well.

Additional useful Apple TV configurations to ease eye strain

In addition to the Dark Mode option, Apple TV includes two more features to enhance screen comfort: Light Sensitivity and Reduce White Point. These options fall under Apple TV’s accessibility settings. Light Sensitivity makes the screen appear dimmer, while Reduce White Point — akin to the battery-saving function on iPhones — dims the display by reducing the brightness level of colors. To enable these Apple TV features, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings application.
  2. Select Accessibility from the menu.
  3. In the Vision section, click on Display.
  4. Scroll down to find Light Sensitivity.
  5. Tap Light Sensitivity to turn it on.
  6. Navigate to Intensity.
  7. Adjust the percentage to your preferred level.
  8. Return to the Display settings.
  9. Proceed to Reduce White Point.
  10. Tap Reduce White Point to turn it on.
  11. Choose Intensity.
  12. Set your desired intensity percentage by adjusting the slider.

If you’d prefer not to access Settings each time you want to toggle these features, you can set them up as accessibility shortcuts. Follow these instructions to do so:

  1. Visit the main Accessibility menu in Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility Shortcut at the bottom of the display.
  3. Tap on both Light Sensitivity and Reduce White Point.

From this point, you can swiftly turn on and off both features directly from your Apple TV’s Control Center. Just long-press the TV button on your remote and tap the person icon to open the accessibility shortcut panel at the top of the screen. An even faster method is to press the back button three times to bring up the accessibility shortcut panel in the center of the screen.
