Chrome 139 is scheduled to be released at the end of the month, marking the cessation of support for macOS 11, also referred to as Big Sur. As per the Chrome Platform Status page, Chrome 138 will be the final version to support macOS Big Sur. This shift occurs as macOS Big Sur, which debuted in November 2020, is now beyond Apple’s support period.
Google’s Chrome team emphasizes that operating on a supported operating system is vital for ensuring security. Although Chrome will still operate on macOS 11, it will no longer receive updates, rendering users susceptible to security vulnerabilities. To keep Chrome updated, users are required to upgrade their Mac to at least macOS 12, also known as macOS Monterey.
For users whose devices cannot be upgraded to macOS 12, especially those models released prior to 2015, options are scarce. Users might need to contemplate upgrading their hardware or switching to a browser that accommodates older systems.
