If you’re encountering problems loading websites or applications, it’s likely related to a significant Google Cloud outage. Per Google Cloud’s status page, numerous products began facing service difficulties at approximately 11:46 a.m. PT on Thursday, June 12. This resulted in substantial interruptions across the internet, affecting services such as Spotify and Snapchat as well as Cloudflare and Discord, as illustrated in the screenshot from Downdetector above.
“Our engineers have pinpointed the root issue and have implemented suitable mitigations,” states the 12:41 p.m. PT update. “Although our engineers have verified that the core dependency has been restored in all areas except us-central1 [Iowa], we recognize that customers are still dealing with varying levels of impact on specific Google Cloud products. All relevant engineering teams are actively involved and aiming for service recovery.”
As per the latest update, Google still lacks an ETA for complete service restoration. The exact cause of the service outage remains unclear.
Most of the affected services have now returned online, as shown by the trend lines on Downdetector. The Google team indicated in its 12:30 p.m. PT status update that all locations aside from “us-central1” have fully recovered.
We will keep you informed as the situation progresses.
UPDATE 1: “We have located the root cause and enacted appropriate mitigations,” states the 1:16 p.m. PT update. “Our infrastructure has been restored in all areas except us-central1. Our engineers are conscious of the customers still facing issues on us-central1 and multi-region/us and are actively working towards full recovery. We do not have an ETA for complete recovery.”
UPDATE 2: As of 2:00 p.m. PT, the Google Cloud team is observing signs of recovery everywhere and anticipates “the recovery to finalize in less than an hour.”
