new Generative UI capability, the deployment of Gemini AI to Android Auto, and the introduction of Nano Banana Pro, the latest image generator from the company based on the same Gemini 3 Pro technology. Nonetheless, Google made an unexpected revelation on Thursday that was unrelated to generative AI offerings but still captured significant interest: Google enabled Quick Share to function with the iPhone’s AirDrop, a feature that many Android and iPhone users might have wished for. Remarkably, Google accomplished this independently of Apple and seemingly without sacrificing security. Quick Share to AirDrop functionality permits peer-to-peer connectivity between Pixel 10 devices and iPhones for file sharing.

Apple might not be pleased with Google’s capability to create such cross-platform interoperability, as noted by Mark Gurman on X, and it may try to halt it in the future. However, Google’s iteration of AirDrop is currently operational on Pixel 10 phones and may broaden to additional Android devices. Pixel 10 owners can transmit files to iPhone users and receive files from them as well through the Quick Share-AirDrop link. Notably, the feature also works with other Apple devices capable of file transfers through the AirDrop protocol, such as Macs and iPads.
