the enigmatic Nano-Banana AI image generator gained popularity recently, with some users theorizing that Google possessed the innovative generative AI tool. They believed that Google introduced it on LMArena for public trials ahead of the formal release, which is a common practice with new cutting-edge AI models that developers seek to make available for evaluation prior to a broader deployment.
On Tuesday, Google verified that Nano-Banana is indeed its advanced AI image generation model for Gemini. Its formal designation is Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, although there’s no need to memorize that title. As per Google, both paid and free Gemini subscribers can access the “Nano-Banana” image editing features within the Gemini application. The enhanced AI image generator will also be accessible via the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, and Vertex AI.
The new editing model has emerged from Google’s DeepMind division, as stated in a blog entry. “People have been going bananas over it already in early previews,” Google hinted, mentioning that the new model is the highest-rated image editing model globally, according to LMArena rankings.
