Adaptation of “War of the Worlds” (was there really a need for another?) now streaming on Prime Video and featuring Ice Cube, is generating a rare unison among critics and viewers, with most concur that it’s undoubtedly the worst film of 2025.
Where to start with this one: A substantial portion involves Ice Cube responding to catastrophe scenes displayed on a monitor. The Amazon product placements throughout the film, from delivery personnel to drones to gift cards, are so blatant they’re awkward. The film’s tagline (“It’s worse than you think”) resonates on various levels, and ultimately, there’s no enigma at all as to why this rendition of “War of the Worlds” currently boasts a 17% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 0% score from critics. Clearly, it raises the question: How was this produced?
