These enhancements are merely a few of the new multitasking capabilities introduced in iPadOS 26, and the company further refined the software with iPadOS 26.1, which reinstated Slide Over. Now, with iPadOS 26.2, users can enjoy the capability to drag and drop apps.
In this most recent update, users can effortlessly transition between apps by dragging them from the Dock, Spotlight Search, or App Library and dropping them onto the home screen. The reasons behind Apple’s initial removal of these features remain unclear, but it is refreshing to witness the company reintroducing them with some enhancements. In this situation, even if an app is exchanged for a new one, the previous app will keep functioning in the background.
