Material 3 Expressive design for Pixel phones preceding the latest Pixel 10 series. Google also introduced upgrades for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Watch, along with several AI capabilities accessible to a broader range of Android users, while enhancing audio experiences for wireless earphone users. For instance, two individuals can synchronize their earbuds with the same device to enjoy the same music, podcast, or other content.
The launch of Material 3 Expressive for additional Pixel phones stands out as the foremost announcement from Google on Wednesday. Earlier this year, Google showcased the new design language for Android, unveiling fresh concepts aimed at simplifying smartphone usage. Android 16 devices will incorporate new animations and shapes, along with dynamic menus that infuse a splash of color to visually alert users about the available features on their screens. Live effects will animate the lock screen wallpaper, allowing users to personalize the Phone app with visuals created for their friends and family.
Although Android 16 was released earlier this summer, the Material 3 Expressive design was not prepared for that initial launch. The recently revealed Pixel 10 phones are equipped with Material 3 Expressive. Starting Wednesday, devices from Pixel 6 onwards will receive the updated Material 3 Expressive design. The roster of compatible devices benefiting from Google’s early September Pixel Drop includes the Pixel Tablet.
