Microsoft Prolongs Complimentary Edge Support on Windows 10 Through 2028

retire Windows 10 this upcoming October. While the company has gradually shifted its stance on how end-of-life support for the operating system will be administered, a recent development has shown that Microsoft Edge, at the very least, will continue to receive significant updates for an additional three years.

As per an updated support document from Microsoft, the firm intends to support its Edge browser with new updates until “at least October 2028.” For those who haven’t kept track of the Windows 10 end-of-life situation, Microsoft aims to provide support for the OS with security updates until October 2028 under the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. A license for the ESU is approximately $61. Fortunately, there’s no need to pay for the ESU license to obtain updates for Edge, as the documentation specifies that Microsoft will provide updates for both Edge and WebView2 Runtime at no additional charge. Therefore, even if you don’t acquire an ESU license, you will still receive updates for Edge.
